Boasting a plethora of enchanting villages, spectacular walking routes and some of the UK’s finest pubs and inns, you are truly spoilt for choice here in mid-Devon. Whether you enjoy long romantic walks or cosying up beside the fire with your loved one, our luxury boutique bolthole provides the ideal setting for a seasonal couples’ getaway.

Nearby National Parks

The glorious national parks of Exmoor and Dartmoor are just a stone’s throw away from Redbrick Barn. With plenty of meandering paths and adventurous trails to explore, these wind-scoured landscapes and dramatic moorlands are both romantic and mysterious…

Enchanting Exmoor

Exmoor features an amazing portfolio of landscapes; from jagged cliffs and ancient woodlands, to babbling streams and vast, open moorlands. Why not spend the day exploring the 400 miles of footpaths and cycle trails that Exmoor has to offer? We highly recommend a visit to the Tarr Steps: the longest and oldest clapper bridge in Britain. Or, if you’re looking for a romantic date night activity, Exmoor (aka Europe’s first Dark Sky Reserve) is the perfect base for night-time star gazing.

Down-to-Earth Dartmoor

Dartmoor is the largest South Western moorland park, offering a fascinating mosaic of interesting terrains – including traditional castle ruins, wild waterfalls and natural rugged tors. Be sure to look out for the magical Dartmoor ponies and playful otters that freely roam the land. We recommend embarking upon the Tarka Trail; a scenic cycle route to the dramatic coastline, named after Henry Williamson’s much-loved novel ‘Tarka The Otter’.

Beautiful Bickleigh

Bickleigh is a picturesque community village, perched upon the banks of the River Exe. This quaint stopover village is well known for its traditional thatched roof cottages, attractive medieval bridge and working water mill. Bickleigh’s scenic drinking hole, the Fisherman’s Cot, has outdoor tables perched upon the river bank, and is well worth a pit-stop for a cold cast ale.

Triassic Thorverton

Venture to the nearby village of Thorverton to explore the close-knit community life and the notorious rich red earth it is known for – made distinctive due to the deep red clay which lies beneath the ground. Discover an abundance of unusual rocks and minerals dating back to the Triassic period during a romantic stroll through the village, before stopping off at the Thorverton Arms for real ales, local ciders and delicious homemade food. Open Monday – Saturday, you’ll find Berry’s Dairy, your nearest shop. This traditional corner store supplies all your everyday essentials, as well as locally sourced specialities, wine and West Country gins.
